Nestled quietly between Kitty Hawk and the Town of Duck you will find the small community known as Southern Shores Township. While many local residents consider this home, it also offers vacationers a chance to ‘live like the locals do’ with vacation homes on secluded residential streets tucked away from it all.
Luxury Beach Homes in Southern Shores, North Carolina
Like its neighbors to the north and south Southern Shores offers luxury vacation rental homes along the oceanfront, but its true secret lies in its soundside offerings. Just a few blocks from the beach you will find a variety of 4 to 6 bedroom homes, many with their own private pool, all at a fraction of the cost of their oceanside counterparts. Southern Shores offers several community walkways and crosswalks, so you can take full advantage of the great rates without compromising access to the beach.
Southern Shores may not offer much in the way of shopping but with Kitty Hawk and Duck close by you’re never far from great shopping and dining options. Most of its inhabitants would agree it’s precisely its lack of commercial venues that make Southern Shores so special too. Shopping centers and restaurants typically found in most Outer Banks towns are replaced here by quiet un-crowded beaches and an unmistakably hometown neighborhood feel.
Wanting to have some outdoor fun with the kids other than just at the beach? Southern Shores offers lots of great ways to enjoy the great outdoors! Enjoy a day at Sea Oats Park playing on the soccer field, basketball court, or just sliding down the slide at the playground. The community soundside wading beach with picnic area and playground is also a great choice for afternoon play. Residents and vacationers are required to have a Southern Shores community parking pass for access to these amenities though, so be sure to place yours on the dash before you head for the fun. (These passes will be supplied at check-in.) Please view Town of Southern Shores map for community walking paths, parking and beach accesses.
If you are bringing your family pet, please keep in mind that this community does not permit animals on the beach (ocean or sound) between May 15 and September 15. (You can however take them to a nearby Kitty Hawk beach access where your pet is welcomed, but must remain on a leash). Taking your furry friends for a walk? Be sure they’re on a leash at all times and clean up behind them year-round. Any questions or concerns you may have regarding leash laws and/or parking passes, please contact the town of Southern Shores at 252-261-2394.
Enjoy the quiet, carefree atmosphere of Southern Shores on your next Outer Banks vacation; you’ll be pleasantly surprised how different it is!
