For many visitors, crossing the three mile Wright Memorial Bridge officially signals the beginning of another great Outer Banks vacation. Dare County Parks and Recreation facility is great for Pet Friendly Vacations in Outer Banks

No need to leave your pets at home! Kitty Hawk welcomes all your four-legged friends on the beach from Memorial Day to Labor Day, 10am to 6pm, and pet friendly accommodations are available. Try the newly opened Dare County Parks and Recreation facility offers a Skate and Dog Park. The town does require a current rabies tag, a leash and owner supervision at all times. They also ask that pet owners be responsible in providing water and cleaning up after their pet.  Please read posted signs at public accesses, as each town’s rules vary. New this summer: Dare County Parks and Recreation will be completing the Outer Banks area’s first dog park! A 5000 square foot public skateboard park, now under construction should be completed by early summer at the same location.  Parking, public restrooms, a picnic pavilion and walking trail are just a few of the other great features this park has to offer. Fees and permits may be required.

Kitty Hawk is filled with a great selection of restaurants, from elegant to casual dining, to local burger places and ice cream shops. Dining at the Black Pelican will not only give you panoramic views of the ocean but will take you through the history of the old Kitty Hawk Lifesaving Station that was constructed in 1874. Making reservations is highly recommended!

Looking for something to do while you’re here?  Play a round of golf at an 18 hole golf course or play some mini golf with the little ones. Plan a trip to visit spots frequented by the Wright Brothers, peruse a Monument to a Century of Flight, then stop by Kitty Hawk’s Town Hall to view artifacts from the naval ship USS Kitty Hawk, which was recently was retired from active duty. Take a nature tour by kayak through the canals of Kitty Hawk, and capture breathtaking photos of the beautiful wildlife along the water.  Get a bird’s eye view as you parasail over the Currituck Sound.  Experience peace and serenity as you glide into the open water with a jet ski or boat rental. The possibilities are truly endless!
